Mac Davis Tribute 9/30/20

It's been a sad 24 hours for music fans—especially those who love “Great Songs of the '70s.” First, Helen Reddy passes away at age 78, and now Mac Davis passes at the same age.

You can read my tribute to Helen, posted earlier today, here: https://cuuuk8.wixsite.com/mysite/post/helen-reddy-tribute-9-30-20

As for Mac, he was much more than a singer, he was a gifted songwriter and actor.

I once again turn to Variety Magazine for a comprehensive obituary. I invite you to read it. You might be surprised/amazed at his accomplishments.

As for his “Great Songs,” I'm highlighting 2 of his best:

1972's “Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me,” a song that went to #1 on the US Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary Charts, and in Canada, reached #1 on the AC and Country Charts, as well as #2 on their Hot 40.

And 1974's “Stop and Smell the Roses,” which went to #1 on the US AC Chart and #9 on the Hot 100, as well as #5 & #3 on the respective Canadian Charts.

I think “Stop and Smell the Roses” is a “Great Song” to to remember him by—especially in 2020.

Rest in Peace, Mac Davis.
