About
Growing up in Toledo, Ohio, I was lucky enough to be exposed to a well-rounded selection of popular music. Living just 40 miles from Motown, and 50 miles from Windsor, Ontario, I was surrounded by the best in soul music, Canadian Rock & Roll and the best music America had to offer: Rock, Pop, Rhythm and Blues, Country, Disco, and everything in between.
I was also blessed to hear that music on legendary radio stations like CKLW in Detroit/Windsor, WLS and WCFL in Chicago and at WOHO in Toledo.
It inspired me to become a disc jockey...and eventually a Disco jockey!
I started my radio career in July, 1970...just after my 16th birthday.
I got my driver’s license, and a week later, my 3rd Class Radio license. (You haven’t needed one for decades, but I still have mine--expired, of course!)
A week after that, I did my first air shift.
Skip ahead to 1972. Just before high school graduation, I was hired to be a “GOOD GUY,” at WOHO, where I stayed until 1975.
After that, I bounced up and down the dial for a while...landing at WEAQ/I-94 in Eau Claire, WI for several years...followed by 2 years at WIXX in Green Bay, where I was part of a #1-rated morning show. (We had almost twice the listeners of anyone else!) After that, It was back to Eau Claire for mornings at WAYY...then off to Wausau to manage WDEZ/WRIG for 3 years. Finally, it was back to Eau Claire one last time to work at WMEQ/B-95.
I’ve been off the air since 1992, but I’ve kept my fingers and voice in the game as co-owner of Cook Creative Copywriting. We write commercials for radio stations all over the U.S. I’ve also done literally hundreds of voice overs for various clients.
I miss being on the air, so I decided to do the next best thing: put my knowledge to use and bring you “Great Songs of the 70s!” I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
