Eric Clapton and Adult Contemporary music; During the '60s and most of the '70s, that was NOT a combination that would immediately come to mind.
After all, "Adult Contemporary" is a genre' that encompasses the narrow area between lighter rock and country crossovers--as opposed to the kitchen sink "Hot 100" genre' that includes everything from Adult Contemporary...to Hard Rock, Blues, and anything else the music-buying public would enjoy.
Of course, Clapton's early music fell into the Hard Rock/Blues label. (Check out his work with Cream, below.)
By the '80s, Eric was getting older...and a bit mellower...but he still had a "Rock 'n' Roll Heart," which just happens to be today's Great Song of 1983!'
The song was the first single release from Eric's "Money and Cigarettes" album, and if it WASN'T autobiographical, it certainly FELT that way. It ended up reaching #6 on the Adult Contemporary Chart, while peaking at just #18 on the Hot 100. Who'd-a-thunk it?!
Fun Fact: In 2010, "Rock 'n' Roll Heart" was used in an advertising campaign for the Fender edition of the T-Mobile HTC Magic myTouch 3G telephone. Eric appeared in the commercial, and resurrected the song for his North American tour with Roger Daltrey. Shortly thereafter, the song had been streamed more than 100,000 times.
Basically, Eric Clapton's "I've Got a Rock 'n" Roll Heart." was a hit twice: in 1983 and 2010. Softer than usual Clapton...but still a Great Song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqlKFbXVXmc
