Several days ago, we highlighted the song "Hold Your Head Up" by Argent. You can refresh your memory here:

If you recall, Argent was the group that keyboardist Rod Argent formed after his OTHER group, The Zombies, broke up.
Argent (the group) ended up being a one-hit wonder (see above), but a song written by their guitarist, Russ Ballard, actually became a "Great Song of the '70s"--FIRST!
Here's how: Argent released their first single, "Liar," in 1970, but it failed to chart anywhere in the world, and sank without a trace.
Then, in 1971, Three Dog Night took a crack at "Liar," and their very similar version went right into the Top 10, peaking at #4 in Canada and #7 in the US!
In 1972, Argent released "Hold Your Head Up," and there's your timeline!
The only thing left for me to do is make a bad pun:
I'd be a LIAR if I said "Liar" wasn't a "Great Song of the '70s.
