You Should Be Dancing - Bee Gees (1976) 4/7/21

Trivia Question: What was the first Bee Gees single from the "Saturday Night Fever" Soundtrack to hit #1 on Billboard's Hot 100?

Was it' "Stayin' Alive?" Nope.

Was it "Night Fever?" Sorry.

Okay, it was a trick question. The answer is "You Should Be Dancing," which was originally released from the "Children of the World" Album in 1976.

The song was such a success on the charts, the "powers that be" thought it should be included on the "Fever" album as well.

What type of success are we talking about? Well, in addition to #1 on Billboard's Hot 100, "You Should Be Dancing" spent SEVEN WEEKS at the top of the Billboard Dance chart. (It also went to #4 on the Soul Chart.) In Canada, it was a #1 hit on the Top 40 and #9 on the Adult Contemporary Chart.

Obviously, adding it to "Saturday Night Fever" was a no-brainer!

More Trivia: You might be surprised to learn that Stephen Stills contributed to the song. He was recording an album in an adjacent studio and was invited by the Bee Gees to play some auxiliary percussion parts.

"You Should Be Dancing:" One listen to this "Great Song of 1976-77," and you know that's EXACTLY what you should be doing. :-)
