"Grease" was the word in 1978...when the film, starring John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John and a score of recognizable names and 30-year-old teenagers became the highest-grossing movie musical of all time up to that point.
The soundtrack featured several hit records. The title song by Frankie Valli went to #1 in both Canada and the U.S., Olivia's "Hopelessly Devoted to You" went to #1 in Canada and #3 in the U.S. (and received an Oscar nomination for "Best Song."), and "Summer Nights," featuring most of the cast, went to #3 in Canada and #5 in the U.S.
