There's not a whole lot to say about today's “Great Song of the '70s,” except that it's an excellent example of the smooth Philadelphia sound, and a fantastic slow song, perfect for “dancing and romancing.”
In 1974, The Stylistics added to their list of hits with “You Make Me Feel Brand New,” written by the Philadelphia songwriting team of Thom Bell and Linda Creed (who also wrote songs like “Rubberband Man” for The Spinners among many others)
The song features two lead singers: Arrion Love and Russell Tompkins, Jr., and together, they sang their way into the Top 5 in 5 countries, including #3 in Canada and #2 in the UK. In the States, it was Top 10 on 3 different Billboard Charts: #2 on the Hot 100, #5 on the Soul Chart, and #6 on the Adult Contemporary Chart. “You Make Me Feel Brand New:” a “Great Song of 1974!”
