You Make Lovin' Fun - Fleetwood Mac (1977) 4/30/20

Fleetwood Mac's 1977 "Rumours" album was one for the ages. It was universally acclaimed by critics and fans, and as of 2012, it had sold 40 MILLION copies in the US alone--the fifth highest selling album of all time up to that point!

It spawned 4 hit singles, and we've already highlighted the first, "Go Your Own Way," back on 4/19/20.

And the Third: "Don't Stop." back on 6/29/20.

We'll cover the third, "Dreams" at a later date, and that brings us to the fourth hit off the album, "You Make Lovin' Fun."

It's common knowledge that while recording the album, the individual lives of the "Macs" were in complete disarray--especially in the romantic department. Mick Fleetwood was going through a divorce, and the rest were having affairs and could barely stand the sight of each other.

Christine McVie was having an affair with the band's lighting director, Curry Grant, and wrote "You Make Lovin' Fun" about him. Husband John McVie was suspicious about the title and the lyrics, so Christine told him she wrote the song about her DOG.

Whether he believed her is anyone's guess.

The song itself was a Top 10 hit in both the US (#9) and Canada (#7), which is all the more impressive when you realize the song had already been available on a multi-million-selling album for several weeks!

"You Make Lovin Fun:" Whether it's about a "Curry" or a "Furry," It is most certainly a "Great Song of the '70s!"
