Yo-Yo - The Osmonds (1971) 11/20/21

"Osmania" was running wild in the early '70s: The Osmonds could do no wrong.

If Donny wasn't at the top of the charts with his kiddie-pop songs, then the rest of the brothers were rockin' out with Great (and weird) Songs" like "Crazy Horses," which we highlighted back on: 2/12/21:

Of course, Donny was in the lineup for several rockin' tunes, like "Down By the Lazy River," which we highlighted back on: 11/9/19:

And Today's "Great Song of 1971: "Yo-Yo!"

"Yo-Yo" was written by singer/songwriter Joe South and originally recorded by Billy Joe Royal. Billy's version peaked at #117 on the Hot 100. In other words, it stiffed.

But then the Osmonds covered it...and BOOM: #1 in Canada and #3 on the Hot 100.

What a difference 114 chart slots can make. :-) But seriously, The Osmonds did a bang-up job with it...and made it into a "Great Song of 1971!"
