Yes, I'm Ready (1979) 12/13/20

Several times in the past, we've highlighted “Great Songs of the '70s” that featured the “Philadelphia Sound:” the smooth soul style from artists like Barry White, The Three Degrees, Lou Rawls, The O'Jays, The Spinners and Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, etc.—all backed by the Philadelphia International Records “house band:” MFSB.

You might be interested to know that the members of MFSB (as well as Philly International founders Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff) first got together to play behind a “Great Song of the '60s,” by an artist wrote the song in UNDER TEN MINUTES...and recorded it in ONE TAKE!

Barbara Mason was just 18 years old when she wrote and recorded “Yes, I'm Ready,” which went to #2 on Billboard's Rhythm & Blues Chart and #5 on the Hot 100 in 1965.

So what has that have to do with the '70s? Well...

In 1979, Harry Wayne Casey (aka KC of KC and the Sunshine Band) teamed up with his friend and former high school classmate Teri DeSario to record a fantastic cover version—which in late 1979, crossing over to 1980, reached #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart, #2 on the Hot 100, and #10 on Canada's Top 40.

“Yes, I'm Ready:” A “Great Song” in 3 decades (technically): 1965, 1979 & 1980.
