In the late '70s and early '80s, there wasn't a group more in demand than The Bee Gees--and that is definitely an understatement.
They were still releasing Great Songs of their own...but because of their continuing success...a long list of artists were asking them to toss a hit song or two their way. Quite often, the brothers were honored to oblige--paving the way to even MORE success.
The most impressive example involved Barbra Streisand, who asked them to write an entire ALBUM for her.
Well, who could turn down a legend like Babs? The end result was the album, "Guilty," and the first single release, "Woman in Love" (written by Barry and Robin) was not only one of the biggest hits of Barbra's career, it was a MAJOR worldwide success...
reaching #1 in TWENTY countries--including the US, where it topped Billboard's Hot 100 for 3 weeks, and the Adult Contemporary Chart for 5 weeks!
It's no wonder "Woman in Love" was such a success. It was almost a mathematical certainty: Barbra Streisand + The Bee Gees = Great Song of 1980!
Tomorrow: Happy 83, Neil D!
