With Your Love - Jefferson Starship (1976) 4/29/21

Over the years, it has become increasingly difficult to keep track of the ever-changing members of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, and just Starship.

For today's blog, I've decided to skip the spreadsheet, and go straight to the lineup that gave us today's "Great Song of 1976."

Original Airplane members Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Marty Balin, David Freiberg and John Barbata were still with the group when they released "With Your Love."

Actually, Marty had left and then returned--Yes, I just promised not to deep dive into the lineup, but in Marty's case, it's important to know because he co-wrote the song and sang lead.

It was the first single off the "Spitfire" album, and if you had told the group (Let's say in 1967) that they would one day have a Top 10 hit on Billboard's ADULT CONTEMPORARY Chart, they probably would have laughed in your face. (After all, Adult Contemporary means mainstream POP music, not underground ROCK!)

But that's exactly what happened...as "With Your Love" reached #6 on the AC Chart. On the Hot 100, it peaked at #13.

It's now a standard on both classic rock and oldies stations...and remains a "Great Song of the '70s!'

(Note: Frieberg is the only original member still with the group...and yes, they're still out there).
