I986 was a pivotal year for Van Halen.
First and foremost, it's the year Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth as lead singer, just in time to record and release their 7th studio album: "5150."
Critics and fans who were waiting to hear what the band would sound like with Sammy were obviously pleased with the the first single release: "Why Can't This Be Love?"
Billboard Magazine loved the "hard rocking hooks and trademark guitar workouts." Cashbox called it "a powerful pop/rock kicker."
The song was a major hit, topping Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart, and reaching #3 on the Hot 100.
Note: While Eddie Van Halen played both guitar and keyboards on the track, Sammy played the guitar parts during live concerts.
