Before I get to today's Great Song , let me jog your memory a bit:
In i984 and 1985, the films "Romancing the Stone" and "Jewel of the Nile" were HUGE Box Office hits. Both were action-adventure rom-coms that starred Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito.
"Romancing" won two Golden Globes: Best Picture/Musical or Comedy and Best Actress for Kathleen Turner. (Note: It was directed by Robert Zemeckis, who went on to direct the "Back to the Future" trilogy.)
'Jewel" didn't win any awards...but in 1986,its theme song, "When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going" by Billy Ocean was a world-wide hit, topping the charts in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, The Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, and the UK!
Here in the US, it peaked at #2 on both the Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary Charts...and for the record, it also reached #2 in Finland, Greece, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, and West Germany.
Pretty impressive!
