We're highlighting another '80s supergroup today: "Bad English. Here's the roster:
*Lead singer John Waite from The Babys *Keyboardist Jonathan Cain, Guitarist Neil Schon, and Drummer Deen Castronovo, all from Journey *Bassist Ricky Phillips from Styx
Together, they had a smattering of hits during the late '80s and early '90s, but their biggest, by far, was their Great Song of 1989: "When I See You Smile."
The power ballad was written by the late, great, and extremely prolific Diane Warren (who, during her career, won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Grammy or two, and several Songwriter of the Year awards)!
"When I See You Smile" highlighted the musicality of all 5 members of Bad English, and it was a big hit in both the US and Canada.
In a rare showing of equal popularity, the song topped the Top 40...and reached #11 on The Adult Contemporary Charts in BOTH countries! It also climbed to #10 on the US Mainstream Rock Chart.
