What a Fool Believes (1979) 8/25/20

There were rumors that Michael Jackson contributed to today's “Great Song of the '70s,” but The Doobie Brothers said it wasn't so. What WAS true, however, is that Kenny Loggins co-wrote “What a Fool Believes” with Michael McDonald and recorded it 5 months before McDonald sang lead on the Doobies' version.

Kenny's version was an album cut that was never released as a single, but the Doobies' version was, and without a doubt, it's

a “Great Song!”

It was one of the very few non-disco songs to top the charts in 1979, which it did in both the US and Canada.

And, if you need MORE proof of its greatness, how about this: It won TWO major Grammy Awards: “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year.”

Over the years, it's been covered by the likes of Aretha Franklin and George Michael, and it was featured in the 2013 version of the “Grand Theft Auto” video game.

“What a Fool Believes:” a “Great Song of 1979!” Believe it!
