Crosby, Stills, \Nash and Schmit: It just doesn't have the same ring to it without Young, but that's who sang on today's "Great Song of 1982: "Wasted on the Way."
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young would sometimes go years between albums and single releases...but when they DID get together, it was magic.
Unfortunately, that was only in the studio, In real life, they couldn't agree on much of anything--and that that's why their output was sporadic at best. Neil Young, especially, was in and out of the group, and that's why former Eagle Timothy B. Schmit was recruited for "Wasted on the Way."
Graham Nash wrote the song in an effort to point out to the others that they wasted an awful lot of years feuding when they could have been making Great Music. The point was well taken.
Radio DJs had a different idea as to what it was about: Somehow it got around that it had to do with David Crosby's massive drug problem. Wrong...(for the most part) but certainly plausible.
In any event, the song was a Top 10 hit (#9) on Billboard's Hot 100, the groups first hit in 5 years. It was credited to only Crosby, Stills & Nash, but with Schmit on board, the tight four part harmonies sounded like classic CSNY.
