Walking on Sunshine - Katrina & The Waves (1985) 11/22/23

Kimberly Rew (That's a guy, by the way), who wrote today's Great Song of 1985,  insists that  was not inspired by any specific happy romantic event.

"Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina & the Waves was just a fun, lighthearted song overflowing with optimism.

Lead singer Katrina Lescanish and the rest of the band weren't particularly keen on the song...but they changed their tune (so to speak) after it charted in several countries...including #2 in Ireland, #3 in Canada, and #6 on Billboard's Hot 100.

In a very smart move, Kim shared the performance rights for "Walking on Sunshine" with Katrina and the group...which made them all a good chunk of change--especially after the song was used in a whole bunch of films, including The Secret of My Success. The Ultimate Disaster Movie, American Psycho, High Fidelity, and Disney's Herbie: Fully Loaded.

Then in 1996, Dolly Parton came out with a revved up countrified version on her album "Treasures." Good stuff!

"Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina & the Waves:" a Great Song of 1985 that Katrina says will most likely outlive her!  (Yep!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPUmE-tne5U
