For a multiple chart topper, there's not a lot of info to pass along about today's Great Song of 1977: "Torn Between Two Lovers" by Mary MacGregor.
Probably the most interesting fact is that the song (obviously about a love triangle) was (written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary... along with Phillip Jarrell.
Also, for those of us who live in up here in the North Country, it may interest you to know that Mary was born in Minneapolis and is a U-of-M graduate.
"Torn between Two Lovers" was the title cut from Mary's debut album of the same name, and, as a single in late 1977/early 1978, it became a Triple #1 in Canada (Top 40, Adult Contemporary, and Country) and a Double #1 in the US (Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary--and #3 Country). It also topped the charts in Australia.
After that, Mary released a few minor hits in the US, and later had some success in Japan, and as a nightclub act, mostly on America's west coast.
But topping the charts with your debut single is pretty impressive, and Mary MacGregor earned kudos with "Torn Between Two Lovers:" a "Great Song of 1977-78!"
