Too Shy- Kajagoogoo (1983) 12/3/23

n 1978, the British group Art Nouveau was formed...with very little fanfare and absolutely ZERO success.

In 1982, they hired Christopher Hamill as their new lead singer, and changed their name to Kajagoogoo--referencing sounds a baby makes.

That seems odd until you follow their thinking: They were now a "newborn" band...making new sounds.

Plus the name caught people's attention...especially after they released their debut single: "Too Shy," which became a Great Song of 1983!

It was an immediate hit in the UK, topping the charts for 2 weeks, and then it spread all over the world, charting in 16 countries, and reaching #1 in Ireland, Belgium, Japan, and West Germany.

Here in the US, it peaked at #5 on Billboard's Hot 100 after becoming a fan favorite on MTV..

Over the years, the song has been featured in several video games, and the film "The Wedding Singer."

It was Kajagoogo's only US hit...but they avoided being a one-hit wonder with several subsequent singles that were hits in the UK and other parts of the world.

Perhaps American radio stations were "Too Shy" to play any of their other songs.

"Too Shy" by Kajagoogo: Baby makes a Great Song og 1983!

Tomorrow: Matthew breaks through...without breaking stride.
