Today's the Day -America (1975) 12/5/21

Like many musicians, Dan Peek of the group America had a home studio he liked to tinker in, and sometimes he'd invite some friends over to jam and trade ideas.

In 1975, he invited Rod Stewart to stop by, and while they were noodling around, Dan decided he'd play his latest composition for Rod and maybe get some input.

Well, Rod loved "Today's the Day" and felt it was a "Great Song." He was right!

When America released the song as a single (from the album "Hideaway") in 1976, it climbed all the way to #1 on Billboard's Easy Listening chart and #5 on Canada's Adult Contemporary Chart.

But here's the rest of the story:

Rod told Dan it gave him an idea for a song of his own, and later in '76, he released "Tonight's the Night," which became an 8-week chart topper, and one of the best-selling singles of all time! (Read my 6/18/20 blog entry about it by clicking the link below).

All Dan could do was (in his words): "laugh, slap myself on the forehead and say 'Why didn't I think of that!?"

"Today's the Day" by Dan Peek and America...a "Great Song of 1976" which led to an even "Greater Song" by Rod Stewart!
