Tighter Tighter (1970) 11/23/20

On November 14th, we highlighted Tommy James and his post-Shondells hit, “Draggin' the Line.”

Well, Tommy wasn't just working on solo material, he was also writing and producing “Great Songs” for other '70s artists.

In 1970, he and his partner Bob King handed over a song to a group called Alive and Kicking and the result was a song that went to #7 on Billboard's Hot 100 and #5 in Canada.

If you listen closely, you can certainly tell that “Tighter, Tighter” sounds like a Tommy James & The Shondells song. Plus, it has a classic two-word “Tommy-Style” title...ala “Mony Mony” and “Hanky Panky.”

That was great for Alive and Kicking, but unfortunately they turned out to be a one-hit wonder and broke up in 1971. Still, that one hit: “Tighter, Tighter” is a “Great Song of 1970” for the group...and for Tommy James!
