Thunder and Lightning - Chi Coltrane (1972) 10/14/21

In the early '70s, singer/pianist Chi ("Shy") Coltrane was one of hottest performers on the Chicago club scene...and then, when she was invited to play at the International Rock Festival in Rio de Janeiro, she tore the house down in front of 50,000 people.

Here's what followed in quick succession: a record contract, extensive worldwide touring with the likes of Rod Stewart, The Who, Stevie Wonder and The Eagles, and universally rave reviews!

For example, Rolling Stone Magazine called Chi a "rip-snorting female vocalist, composer and producer whose performances are nothing less than searing!"

She was dubbed the "First Lady of Rock" in the US and the "Queen of Rock" in Europe."

Her first single, "Thunder and Lightning," was a "GREAT SONG" of 1972! On the charts, it ROCKED it's way to #17 on the Hot 100 and #18 in Canada.

And then....mostly because she hated self-promotion...and maybe because in reality, Chi was..uhh..Shy...she backed off, content to this day to play small clubs for her loyal cult following. (Word has it that she's currently in the studio recording a new album.)

Chi Coltrane was a one-hit wonder...but "Thunder and Lightning" was one heck of a hit--and indeed a "Great Song of the '70s!"
