When your very first single goes to #1, how do you follow it up?
If you're the group Player, you follow 1978's "Baby Come Back" (which we highlighted back on 1/20/21) with a song that had already been released by two other artists and failed to chart.
It actually made a bit of sense. "This Time I'm In It for Love" was actually a "Great Song. It just needed a little boost from a group that was HOT...and in'78, Player was that group.
For the record, the other two artists were Austin Roberts, who had had a few hits like "Something's Wrong with Me," and Cyndi Grecco, best known for "Making Our Dreams Come True," the "Theme from Laverne & Shirley." (Note: I couldn't find a link to Austin's version, but you can hear Cyndi's below.)
Player's version of "This Time I'm In It for Love" charted at #10 on Billboard's Hot 100, and #12 on Canada's Top 40.
In other words, THIS time they made it a hit--and a "Great Song of 1978!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-VFapacg7c
