The Warrior - Scandal w/Patti Smyth (1984) 8/14/23

It's entirely possible that you've never heard of songwriter Holly Knight, but during the '80s, she wrote or co-wrote a number of Great Songs for artists like Tina Turner and Pat Benatar.

Today, we're highlighting one of her best, "The Warrior," which she co-wrote with Nick Gilder (of "Hot Child in the City" fame).

According to Holly, her inspiration for the song came subconsciously from growing up in a dysfunctional family.

In a bit of self discovery, she later explained: "I was always more interested in fighting FOR something rather than fighting WITH someone, and without being cognizant of it, it was a constant theme in my psyche, and hence, my song.

In 1984, "The Warrior" was recorded and released by Patty Smyth and Scandal who certainly did it justice!

The song spent several weeks on the Charts, topping Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart, and Canada's Top 40. It also reached #7 on Billboard's Hot 100, and #6 in Australia.

And here's a stat worth mentioning: "The Warrior" won a BMI (Broadcast Music Inc) Airplay Award for being one of the most played songs (on the radio) of 1984!
