Jim Peterik of the group Survivor was always a sucker for a good title. Take today's Great Song of 1985 for example.
"Jim came up with the title "The Search is Over," and hung onto it for a while.
In his words, "A lot of times, you don't know what a title means until you live it or someone you know lives it."
Then a friend of his lived it.
This friend had met a girl when he was a child, and as they grew up, they grew to be close, but platonic ,friends. It never entered his mind that she could be the one, and he went through failed relationship after failed relationship looking for his dream girl, until one day...he FINALLY realized that his childhood friend had always been his destiny.
Jim was also a sucker for a good story. so he and his collaborator, Frankie Sullivan adapted it to song, and in 1985, Survivor" released it as a single (from the album "Vital Signs").
"The Search is Over" promptly went to #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart, where is stayed for a month. It also reached #4 on the Hot 100.
Jim later said that he and Frankie knew it would be a hit because after he came up with the lyric, "When I touched your hand, I could hear you whisper, the search is over, love was right before my eyes," they both had goose bumps.
"The Search is Over" by Survivor:" based on a true story, and a Great Song of 1985! (Note: The couple is still married today.)
Tomorrow: Mac Lies.
