The Entertainer

I am determined to keep my "Great Songs of the 70s" posts going for quite a while yet. Today, it's a song by Billy Joel--one of his first. He was an angry young man when he wrote and recorded this (and he says so when he performs it in concert). His record company had just chopped "Piano Man" down to 3 minutes and 5 seconds, because they deemed the original version was too long to be a hit. Not cool--and not correct, either. This song was his revenge. From 1974: (Trivia: the 45 gives the length as 3:05 as well--but it's actually 3:36. Just to piss off the record company.)
