Whether or not you think today's highlighted song is actually a GREAT song of the '80s depends on two things:
#1: You love swing music. 2: You're a fan of The Three Stooges.
Just so you know, I love both.
And let me name drop while I'm at it. I had the good fortune to meet and talk with Moe Howard back in the 70s, and contrary to what you might think, he was one of the nicest and most gracious celebrities I have ever met--which made me an even bigger fan.
1983's "The Curly Shuffle" by The Jump in the Saddle Band was a tribute to Larry, Moe, and especially Curly...with nods to Shemp and Curly Joe.
It was recorded and released to coincide with the Stooges FINALLY getting their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame--unfortunately long after all but Joe had passed away.
"The Curly Shuffle" focuses on all of the catchphrases, vocal tics, and weird dance moves that Curly was known for, and the video uses footage culled from the 190 film shorts the Stooges made from 1922 to 1970.
The song reached #15 on Billboard's Hot 100 in early '84, and made The Jump in the Saddle Band a very different kind of one-hit wonder.
Note: There is so much to know about the Stooges, and I encourage you--if so inclined--to read their Wikipedia page--or one of the many books about them. I guarantee that whether you like them or not, you'll be fascinated about everything they went through to make generations of Americans laugh.
