That's the Way of the World - Earth, Wind & Fire (1975) 3/27/21

In 1975, "That's the Way of the World," a film about the music business was released to theatres. The film AND the soundtrack were produced by Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire.

The film, (starring Harvey Keitel), was a minor success, but critics fell all over themselves praising Earth, Wind & Fire's soundtrack. For example: Rolling Stone Magazine called it "make-out music of the gods!"

The album was nominated for an American Music Award (Favorite R&B/Soul LP) and was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone currently has it at #420 on their list of the "Greatest Albums of All Time."

Of course, the album featured a couple of "Great Songs of the '70s," the first being "Shining Star," which we highlighted way back on 11/19/19. You can read my short blurb about it here: https://www.facebook.com/MichaelCuuuk/posts/103031201170336

The second was the title cut and today's' "Great Song!"

Once again, the critical reviews were...something else!

Stephen Curwood of the Boston Globe wrote, "The song comes into your consciousness the way a cool air-conditioned breeze rushes over your face when you've been out in the sticky heat." (I think he liked it!)

"That's the Way of the World" reached #5 on Billboard's Soul Chart and #12 on the Hot 100. In 2004, Rolling Stone placed it at #337 on their list of the "Top 500 Songs of All Time."

With all that in mind, for me to call it a "Great Song of the '70s," is not only an understatement...but unnecessary.

But hey, "That's the Way of the World," right?
