George Clinton, Bootsy Collins and the Parliament/Funkadelic collective were responsible for some of the funkiest, jazziest and craziest party songs of the 70s.
The groups were pretty much interchangeable, using the same musicians for whatever group was on stage...or on record.
While Funkadelic added some rock and roll to the mix, Parliament injected sci-fi based theatrical performances that had to be seen to believed.
That said...you didn't have to SEE them perform today's "Great Song of 1976 to know they could "Give Up the Funk" and "Tear the Roof Off the Sucker."
The song was a dance floor magnet that made it to #5 on Billboard's Soul Chart and #15 on The Hot 100--selling more than a million copies.
Since 1976, the song has been used in films like "Beauty Shop" and "Moneyball," as well as commercials for Mastercard, Pringles, and Honda, just to name a few!
