Take It Away -Paul McCartney (1982) 1/15/24

Writer's picture: Michael CookMichael Cook

Cashbox Magazine described today's Great Song of 1983 as a "dense, multi-layered pop confection" that "keeps the listener on his/her toes throughout...going from a lazy tropical-type rhythm to a galloping brass section."

"Take it Away" by Paul McCartney" is all of those things and more...especially when you add the contributions of Ringo Starr on drums and Beatles master producer George Martin on piano...not to mention some really solid background vocals by Linda McCartney and Eric Stewart of the group 10-CC. (Note: The video also features actor John Hurt.)

The song was a solid hit in the US, reaching #6 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart and #10 on the Hot 100. For the record, Cashbox ranked it at #6 on their Top 40, and In Canada, it reached #2 on the AC Chart.

The take away from all this: "Take It Away" is definitely a Great Song of 1982!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z-iApVMr2Y

Tomorrow: CC clocks in.
