The original title of today's "Great Song of the '70s" was "Billy Boy."
But one day, ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus was out jogging and he started singing a rhythm that sounded something like "tck-a-ch-tck-a-ch."
After a while, it transformed into the lyrics, "Take-a-Chance-Take-a-Chance"...and the next thing you know, "Billy Boy" was rewritten...and ABBA had another worldwide hit!
In 1978, "Take a Chance on Me" hit the Top 15 in 17 countries, including #$1 in Austria, Belgium, Ireland, the UK and Mexico! In both Canada and the US, it went to #3.
The song also became a show-stopper in the Abba-based musical "Mamma Mia" (as well as the resulting film adaptation), and continues to delight audiences around the world today!
All because ABBA--(wait for it)--"took a chance" and turned Bjorn's jogging rhythm into a "Great Song of 1978!"
