1986 was Anita Baker's breakout year!
She released her second album, "Rapture," and with it, a song that one critic claimed was sung with "so much passion and wonderment, the lyrics sounded like old love sonnets brought back to life."
That's sounds like a lot of hyperbole--except for one thing: Anita's "Sweet Love" was so good, it quickly became a Triple Chart hit: topping Billboard's Black Chart, while reaching #3 on the Adult Contemporary Chart and #8 on The Hot 100.
And then it won the 1987 Grammy Award for "Best R&B Song!
It certainly doesn't get much better than all that--and that's why "Sweet Love" by Anita Baker is a Great Song of the '80s!
