Swearin' to God - Frankie Valli (1975)

Back in 1975, Disco was just starting to take off....and some older, established acts were taking notice.

Case in point: Frankie Valli.

He was looking for solo material, so he called on his Four Seasons songwriter/producer Bob Crewe to see what he could come up with. Bob teamed up with songwriter Denny Randall and the end result was today's Great Song: "Swearin' to God."

The song was a perfect example of early disco, featuring a full orchestra with a heavy backbeat and lots of rhythm guitar played with a "Wah-Wah" pedal (wocka-wocka-chicka-wocka).

Note: Although the song is often credited to Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, the other "Seasons" didn't sing on the track.

"Swearin' to God" was a big hit in both Canada in the US. In fact, it was a #1 song on Canada's Adult Contemporary Chart. and reached #10 on the Top 40. Here at home, the song did almost

as well: #9 on the Adult Contemporary Chart and #6 on the Hot 100.

Those are great numbers--proving that an old dog (Frankie Valli) could learn some new--and popular-- (disco) tricks!

Swearin' to God" was Great Song for its time: and deserves the "Great Song of 1975" designation! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAZcPSQr4_M
