Suspicions - Eddie Rabbitt (1979) 12/8/21

Songwriting can be difficult. Or not.

Sometimes it takes months, even years to perfect a "Great Song." Or not.

And sometimes someone in the recording studio says, "Take 5," and in that 5 minutes, someone writes and perfects a "Great Song."

That's what Eddie Rabbitt did in 1979, with "Suspicions." That, in itself, was amazing, but what happened next defies the odds.

When Eddie released the song as a single, it went right to the top of the Country Charts in the US and Canada, and crossed over to other charts, reaching #9 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart and #13 on the Hot 100. It also reached #7 on Canada's AC Chart.

But wait...there's more! In 1980, it was Broadcast Music Incorporated's "Song of the Year!" (BMI is one of the companies that handles licensing and publishing rights for music compositions.)

All that for 5 minutes and a sandwich! LOL!

Note: In 2007, Tim McGraw released a cover version that reached #12 on the country charts in both the US and Canada!
