Stuck in the Middle With You - Stealers Wheel (1973) 12/13/21

It started out as a joke, but it became a "Great Song of 1973," even though some people didn't get it. (Some did, of course.)

Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan of Stealers Wheel wrote "Stuck in the Middle with You" as a humorous take on Bob Dylan's personal paranoia, and as a parody of a typical music industry cocktail party. (Gerry even sang it like Bob Dylan--and some people actually thought it WAS Bob!)

When it was released as a single, so many people missed the joke that Gerry was shocked! He watched in utter disbelief as the song climbed the charts in several countries!

It ended up at #2 in Canada, #5 in South Africa, #6 in the US and Belgium, and #8 in The Netherlands and the UK!

The song sold more than a million copies, and Quentin Tarantino used it in his 1992 film, "Reservoir Dogs!"

Stealers Wheel became a one hit wonder, and before long, Gerry left the group for a solo career which culminated in two MORE "Great Songs: "Baker Street," which we highlighted back on 12/20/19: https://www.facebook.com/page/103016317838491/search/?q=Baker%20Street

And "Right Down the Line," which we highlighted on 3/30/21: https://www.facebook.com/MichaelCuuuk/posts/307946037345517

"Stuck in the Middle with You" by Stealers Wheel: a joke, a parody--and a "Great Song of 1973! (NOTE: The video was made after Gerry left the group. That's Joe Egan lip-synching to Gerry's voice):
