In 1977, when Bryan Adams was 18 years old, he wrote today's Great Song of 1983...and then sat on it for 3 years!
In 1980, the song was recorded and released by an artist named Ian Lloyd, but nothing really came of it.
But then, in 1983, things really started to happen: Bryan recorded it for his debut album, "Cuts Like a Knife," and "Straight from the Heart" was released as a single.
At virtually the same time, Bonnie Tyler recorded it for her "Faster than the Speed of Night" album, and released it as a single in the UK.
Note: In the US, it was on the flip side of "Total Eclipse of the Heart." but across the pond, it was the "A" side, and a modest hit.
Bryan's version went "straight" to #1 on Canada's Adult Contemporary Chart, and here in the US, it reached #10 0n the Hot 100.
"Straight from the Heart" was his breakthrough single...a definite hit, and with a little help from Bonnie Tyler...became a Great Song of 1983!
