And Now, from our "From Detroit, but Not From Motown" list of "Great Songs of the '70s, we [present the R-Rated version of "Goldilocks and
the Three Bears."
When the production team of Hollard-Dozier-Holland left Motown and started their own Detroit record labels,(Hot Wax/Invictus) they also put together a jazz funk group and called it 100 Proof (Aged in Soul).
In 1970, they released "Somebody's Been Sleeping," written in part by Chairmen of the Board lead singer General Johnson.
Perhaps the General (His real name by the way), should have recorded it himself, because the song was a bona fide hit: #6 on Billboard's Rhythm and Blues Chart and #8 on the hot 100!
For a song about infidelity, it sure was catchy!
!00 Proof (Aged in Soul) released a few more songs over the years, but none were all that successful, so in effect, they were a one-hit wonder.
But at least they gave us a "Great Song of 1970: "Somebody's Been Sleeping!
