The Power Station was a supergroup offshoot of Duran Duran, featuring the group's guitarist Andy Taylor and bassist John Taylor, along with singer Robert Palmer and Tony Thompson, drummer for the group Chic.
Together they put together an eponymous debut album that featured today's Great Song of 1985: "Some Like It Hot." The song was written by John, Andy and Robert as a showcase for Tony's drumming, and he didn't disappoint!
His drumming is front and center on the track, and, as single, "Some Like It Hot" POWERED its way up the charts in 12 countries, including here in the US, where it reached #6 on Billboard's Hot 100 and #17 on the Dance Chart.
But then...
Robert Palmer decided not to tour with the group, and left. He was re[placed by singer/actor Michael Des Barres, who some of you might remember as a cast member of the "WKRP in Cincinnati" reboot, which ran from 1991-93.
After the tour, The Power Station disbanded...but in 1996, they re-grouped with Robert Palmer and released an album. But then, unfortunately, they called it quits for good.
But in back in 1985, "The Power Station" plugged us into a "Great Song: "Some Like It Hot!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hw1t7OCESUw
