In 1971, a group called The Candymen merged with the Classics IV (who had charted in the '60s with songs like 'Traces" and "Every Day With You, Girl") to form a group called The Atlanta Rhythm Section, or ARS for short.
In the beginning, ARS was the session band for Studio One, located in the Atlanta suburb of Dothan. After a while, however, they started releasing their own albums and in 1977--from their SIXTH LP--they finally broke into the Top 10 with today's "Great Song of the '70s!"
"So Into You" was about a man who feels an instant attraction to someone entering a room, and tries to connect with them to find out if the attraction is mutual.
Radio listeners and record buyers were "So Into" the song--they carried it into the Top 10 in Canada (#2) and the US (#7). It also was a hit on the Adult Contemporary Chart (#11/US and #12/Canada).
It certainly took a while...but for The Atlanta Rhythm Section, scoring a "Great Song of the '70s" was certainly worth the wait!
