It's Boxing Day: traditionally the day after Christmas when employers in the UK, Canada and other British commonwealth countries give their employees Christmas gifts (“boxes”) to celebrate the season. It also might apply to one country giving to another.
With that in mind, today's “Great Song of the '70s” is a seasonal gift to the US from one of Canada's biggest hit-makers. former Phys-Ed teacher, Anne Murray!
In fact, “Snowbird” was Anne's first big hit: a #1 smash in the Great White North that also made her a star in the US by topping Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart, reaching #8 on the Hot 100, and selling more than a million copies!
“Snowbird” was the beginning of a successful decades-long career for Anne Murray, and a “Great Song of the '70s!”
And to think, she began by giving us...the bird! :-)
