Sister Golden Hair - America (1975) 4/28/21

Gerry Beckley of America has always been quick to point out that when he wrote today's "Great Song of 1975," there really wasn't a "Sister Golden Hair" he was singing to...or about.

He also points out that the song is based on the style of Jackson Browne. In other words, he wanted it to sound like something Jackson COULD have written.

Whether or not you can hear any similarities between Jackson Browne and America, the song itself stands on its own as a classic!

That's a testament to Gerry's OWN writing, as well as his singing, and guitar playing. He played both the 12-string and the slide guitar on the track. (The fact that former Beatles hit-maker George Martin produced it probably didn't hurt!)

In the US, the song topped Billboard's Hot 100, and reached #5 on the Adult Contemporary Chart. In Canada, it peaked at #11 on their Top 40, and #3 on the AC Chart.
