Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours!)--Stevie Wonder (1970) 2/10/21

Updated: Mar 2, 2021

By 1969, Stevie Wonder was already being hailed as a musical genius. As sort of a reward for his work up to that point, Motown gave Stevie complete control over his first album of the '70s, so he took the opportunity and ran with it!

One of the first things he did was sit down with his mom, Lula Hardaway, his future wife Syreeta Wright, and a friend from his days at the Michigan School of the Blind, Lee Garrett, and wrote a song about a guy who messed up his relationship and was begging the girl to take him back.

Pretty standard stuff---unless you're Stevie Wonder.

Stevie built his entire album around “Signed. Sealed, Delivered,” and when it was released as a single in 1970...his musical genius was proven once again!

Not only did the song reach #1 on Billboard's Rhythm & Blues Chart and #3 on the Hot 100, it garnered Stevie his SIXTH Grammy nomination—at the age of TWENTY!

And here's another sign that “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” was a “Great Song:” It was covered by some big name artists...including Elton John, Jermaine Jackson, Chaka Khan, Michael McDonald, Michael Bolton, The Osmonds...and Peter Frampton, whose 1977 version went to #13 in both the US and Canada!

“Signed, Sealed, Delivered:” showcasing the genius of Stevie Wonder as a GREAT song of 1970...and 1977.
