In 1974, Grand Funk Railroad had just completed building their own studio in their native Michigan, and had moved in to start recording their follow-up album (and single) to 1973's "We're An American Band."
The new LP was named after a song drummer Don Brewer had written called: "Shinin' On," and Todd Rundgren was on board to add his genius to the production.
When the album was released in 1974, the first single, a cover of the dance tune "Locomotion," went straight to #1 on the Hot 100.
To follow up, they released "Shinin' On," and it immediately became another huge hit...while becoming a classic rock staple in the progress.
For the record, the song went to #11 on Billboard's Hot 100 and #13 on Canada's Top 40. (Of course, it received a huge amount of uncharted airplay on progressive rock FM stations, so it was a much bigger hit than the numbers show.
If classic rock is your thing (and even if it's not), "Shinin' On" by Grand Funk Railroad is a "Great Song of 1974!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lad3jUGhp5w
