If at first you don't succeed...
In 1984, actor Patrick Swayze and Stacy Widelitz co-wrote a song for the film "Grandview USA," starring Jamie Lee Curtis.
"She's Like the Wind" was never used.
But then, in 1987, after Patrick was cast in "Dirty Dancing," he ran his demo past the producers, who LOVED it. Patrick re-recorded the song with vocal help from Wendy Fraser and it was added to the soundtrack.
"Dirty Dancing," of course, was a HUGE box office smash, and hoping to cash in on the film's success, "She's Like the Wind" was released as a single from the soundtrack in late '87.
Was there any doubt? In early 1988, the song became a worldwide hit, charting in 13 countries. In the US and Canada, it topped the Adult Contemporary Charts, and reached #3 on Billboard's Hot 100, as well as #4 on Canada's Top 40.
It was the combination of the right singer, the right song, and the right film that made "She's Like the Wind" by Patrick Swayze (with Wendy Fraser) a Great Song of 1988! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lU9p1WRfA9w
