From 1978 through the end of the '70s, Kenny Rogers scored 5 #1 hits in a row on Billboard's Country chart--and ALL of them crossed over to the Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary Charts!
We've already highlighted two of these five "Great Songs:"
"The Gambler, " back on 2/17/20:
"You Decorated My Life," which we highlighted on 3/20/20 after Kenny passed away at the age of 81.) https://www.facebook.com/MichaelCuuuk/posts/160430098763779
Today, we're highlighting the only one of the five that also went to #1 on The Adult Contemporary Chart. (It also reached #5 on the Hot 100.)
"She Believes in Me" is a song about a struggling singer/songwriter who has the undying love and support of a woman--and he wonders why.
Note: The song was written by Steve Gibb. There has been some confusion over the years because Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees has a son named Steve, but THIS Steve Gibb is no relation whatsoever.
Kenny gave an emotional performance, and as always with his ballads, melted the hearts of his female fan base. But truthfully, at that point, Kenny's song choices were perfect. He could do no wrong--and with a song like "She Believes in Me," how could he?
It truly is a "Great Ballad of 1979!"
