The Jackson 5 started the '70s by dominating Billboard's Hot 100 with 4 #1 songs in a row, followed by 2 songs that went to #2—all in the space of a YEAR AND A HALF!
In order, they were: “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” “I'll Be There,” “Mama's Pearl,” and “Never Can Say Goodbye.” All GREAT Songs.
Then, during the next 8 1/2 years, they scored another 15 hits that either made the Top 10 on the R&B Chart, the Hot 100...or both!
Finally, in 1979, The Jacksons wrapped up the decade with yet ANOTHER Top 10 song (#3 R&B, #6 Hot 100)!
“Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)” was written by Michael and Randy, and Michael sang lead. The single mix was great enough on its own...but then they remixed it into a floor-filling disco masterpiece that was on a whole different level!
Both versions were “Great Songs of '79,”capping off TEN TEARS of "Great Songs" from the Jacksons!
