There was a certain amount of nepotism involved in today's "Great Song of the '70s, but, really, you have to give credit where credit is due.
1978's "Shadow Dancing" by Andy Gibb was not just a Bee Gees hand-me-down from his brothers. In fact, all four brothers: Barry, Robin, Maurice AND Andy wrote the song, and there's no denying that Andy was an extremely talented singer in his own right.
And yes, in 1978, the Bee Gees were HOT all over the world...but so was Andy. In the US alone, "Shadow Dancing" made Andy the first POP artist in history to have his first three songs go to #1.
It spent 7 weeks at the Top of the Hot 100, making it Billboard's #1 Song of the YEAR! It also reached #8 on the Easy Listening Chart and #11 on the Soul Chart.
Worldwide, the song charted in 9 other countries...also reaching #1 in Canada and Brazil.
So in effect, you could say: "Nepotism--Shempotism." Shadow Dancing stands on its own as a "Great Song of the '70s" by Andy Gibb.
Tomorrow: Getting Real.
