Today, we're highlighting "September Morn," Neil Diamond's last "Great Song of the '70s" (before moving on to "Great Songs of the '80s, '90s and '00's).
'September Morn" was about a couple meeting up again after a breakup, and wondering if the fire was still there...or if it could be rekindled.
It was one of Neil's best ballads, and it was a #2 hit on Billboard's adult Contemporary Chart. In Canada, it went to #1.
But then, in 2011, things got weird--although Neil had nothing to do with it.
On 4/13/11, 20-year-old Tennessee nursing student Holly Bobo vanished. Almost immediately, authorities received all sorts of anonymous tips about where she might be--all of them bogus.
One of the calls came from a person who insisted the lyrics to "September Morn" contained important clues. No one could figure out what those clues might be--so although it made some headlines, nothing came of it.
However...in 2014, Holly's remains were found...on a September morning.
Coincidence? Absolutely...but still weird.
But back to the song itself: 1979's "September Morn" was one of a long list of
"Great Songs" by Neil Diamond...which stretched from the '60s through 2009.
We wish him the best in his fight against Parkinson's Disease.
