Seals and Crofts had been kicking around the music scene together for a long time before they ever started creating “Great Songs of the '70s.”

Here's a quick time line:

1956: Dash Crofts joins Dan Seals in a regional Texas band called Dean Beard and the Crew Cats.

1958: They both move to L.A. to join The Champs. Unfortunately, it was AFTER The Champs had their only #1 hit, “Tequila.”

1963: Seals, Crofts, Jerry Cole and a guitar player named Glen Campbell leave The Champs to form a new group: The GC's. At that point, the pair converts to the Baha'i faith.

1965: The GC's break up when Glen Campbell goes solo, and Seals starts a group called Dawnbreakers—a name that references the Baha'i faith. Crofts joins the group a few months later.

1969: Seals and Crofts decide to form a duo and release 2 albums that go nowhere.

Finally, in 1971, they sign with Warner Brothers and that's when the magic happened. “Summer Breeze” was a big hit (#7 )in 1972, and “Diamond Girl” was even bigger in 1973: #4 on Billboard's Easy Listening Chart and #6 on the Hot 100. In Canada, the matching chart numbers were #2 and #13.

They had a few other minor hits before they faded away, but in 1972 & 1973, it was nothing but “Great Songs” from Seals & Crofts! Summer Breeze:
